With the increasing concrete jungle in the world people are now exploring ways for an eco-friendly lifestyle.
Below, are the few green tips in which you can contribute towards a brighter rather green future:
  1. Conserve Energy!
First and foremost way towards eco-friendly living is conserving energy. Use power sources in such a way that it can be sustained infinitely thus, contributing to eco-friendly living. Energy source must be renewable, and must not harm the environment. Most commonly used renewable sources of energy are: biomass, wind, water, geothermal and solar.

Improvements in technology have given us numerous electrical appliances that make our life easy. Turn off appliances when not in use. This will save energy and will also help you lower your electricity bills. So unplug your appliances, chargers when not in use save energy and earth’s resources.

  1. Look for the Energy Stars!
Energy stars imply how efficient a particular appliance with regards to energy conservation. While purchasing appliances make sure you check for energy star ratings. Trusted brands will give you perfect energy star ratings that will tell you, how effective your electric appliance at saving energy and cost is. For instance, a refrigerator that is 15 years older consumes twice, as much energy as new Energy Star refrigerator. It’s time to Switch!

  1. Homemade cleansers are the way to Go Green!
Use of eco-friendly house cleansing products, helps to promote green living, which contributes to sustainable economy. Say no to synthetic cleansers and start using homemade ones. Synthetic cleaners are non biodegradable while the homemade cleansers are biodegradable. Lemon, corn-starch, white vinegar, citrus solvent acts as a great cleansing agent and is environmentally safe and cheap as well. These products will help you go green and will lead you to eco-friendly living.

  1. Educate your Staff!
Smart housekeeping is a great idea, it includes educating the staff. Educate your building staff, people around you about the importance of adapting green and eco-friendly practices. Give them ideas as to how they can get eco-friendly lifestyle by switching off appliances, composting the waste materials, implementing Energy Star concepts, rain water harvesting etc. Let the crowd step in with you, in your go green ideas.

  1. Use Water Effectively!
We very well know ‘Water is life’ but we still make unnecessary use of water and waste it .Water is an indispensable resource, we must learn to use it wisely. Make sure to repair all those leaking taps, pipelines as early as possible and use water effectively. Do not waste water during festivals like Holi. Conserving rain water through methods like rainwater harvesting, building reservoirs to store water etc to make maximum use of water without any wastage is the need of the hour. For irrigation and flushing toilets, use stored water instead of purified water.

  1. Segregate Your Waste!
Waste disposal is one of the biggest issues that every country is facing and thus acting as a barrier for the eco-friendly environment. The best way to dispose the waste in an effective way is to segregate them as dry and wet waste. Try and incorporate a practice starting from your housing society of setting up 2 separate dustbins for different kinds of waste. Initially it might be difficult to adapt but eventually it lead to a successful run. Upon successful implementation you can implement the same in your neighbouring and then you area. One step at a time is needed but that one step is necessary.

This will help the process of treating waste easy and specific. Also trying to generate biodegradable waste as far as possible and reduce toxic waste produced by synthetic materials.

  1. Making best out of the waste!
Another important means to go green and eco-friendly is to use the waste produced in the best way possible. Composting is best option. All you need to do for setting up a compost plant, is pile up all the biodegradable waste like vegetable waste, paper etc with some soil and water; let it decompose resulting into highly fertile soil. How much ever you compost, there are some wastes that are still produced. Motive of going trash free can reduce your waste to minimum, like  bringing your own beverage containers, utensils, and shopping bags wherever you go, avoid the one-time use coffee cups, plastic utensils, and plastic/paper shopping bags.

  1. Go Eco-friendly in the festive season!
Conduct eco-friendly gatherings during festivities. Do not burst cracker causing pollution. Use eco- friendly colours especially during festival of Holi. Avoid using plastic and disposing it off especially during Ganpati. Dispose garlands in the dustbins and not in the sea. Use Eco-friendly Ganpati Idols versus the Idol created from POP.  Use green, organic and natural products during festivals.

It’s high time we realize the importance of going green and comprehend our responsibilities towards environment. Remember the revolution starts with us. Start with baby steps towards greener environment and soon the world will witness the change. Take this responsibility and be a responsible citizen. With the amount of trash added to the ocean every year, plastics will replace fishes by 2050.

Let’s pledge to pollute less and purify more…
